Supporting education and local economies

Since 2012 Friends of Hebron has been brining beautiful handmade Palestinian ceramics to households across Sydney. All profits from sales are invested back into our projects in the Hebron.

Hebron has a 1200-year-old tradition of making ceramics and glass; it is part of the Palestinian heritage. Ceramics from Hebron are handmade and individually painted by artisans who fill in the black outline design with colour.

From a bustling tourist industry in the ‘70s where factories would receive around 20 busloads of tourists a day, nowadays it’s only individual tourists or small tours organized by local NGOs that make it to the factories.

The enforced restrictions on the freedom of movement of Palestinians through numerous checkpoints, the apartheid wall and Israeli-only roads have acutely damaged the Palestinian economy. For Hebron ceramic factories this has meant a spike in prices and delays in exporting products.

By bringing these beautiful products from local businesses in Hebron to our local communities in Sydney, it’s a win-win for everyone – you can buy a piece of Palestinian artisanal craft and support the Friends of Hebron education projects at the same time.

You can find our products at the Fair Trade Emporium at Addison Rd Community Centre, Marrickville. We also sell out products at a number of markets across the year, join us on facebook to find out more about upcoming stalls once covid restrictions are lifted.
